Music festival in Saudi Arabia was actively promoted despite its homophobia

Numerous famous people are promoting a music festival in Saudi Arabia, and it sparks a huge outrage because the way the country treats minority groups, in part the LGBT people, is literally horrific. Electronic festival MDL Beast took place on 21-23 December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, with a lineup that included DJs David Guetta, Dish Dash, Tiesto and Steve Aoki. Such movie stars as Armie Hammer and Ed Westwick, as well as models Jazelle, Joan Smalls, Amy Jackson and Alessandra Ambrosio were noticed there. LGBT activists noted that this country still punishes homosexuality with death, but they are promo0ting it in the eyes of foreigners to boost its image as they were all paid for this – Saudi Arabia is poor when it comes to human rights, but from the financial point of view it is very, very rich. In part fashion commentator Diet Prada suggested that sum in question counted 6 figures. “It’s very important to me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community, freedom of expression and the right to a free press. I hope coming forward on this brings more attention to the injustices happening there, ” said actress Emily Ratajkowski, who boycotted the event.
